Employing several methods of inquiry (historic, scientific, philosophic, artistic, and whatever you bring) we explore the exponentially expanding phenomenon of the Virtual, the Internet, the Cyber, the Cyborg.
There are lectures. No laptops are allowed during lecture; paper note taking is required. Have a dedicated notebook. We may encounter material that makes us uncomfortable. Hey, it's the Internet.
There are discussions. They will be outside whenever possible. Participation is required. Debate is encouraged. Take notes in lecture on things worth bringing up in discussion.
There are labs. There is coding, but experience is not required. You don't have to be a "computer person." Hopefully you will be one by the end. You don't have to have a laptop (though if everyone does, we can avoid the computer lab!). We will train ourselves to be nimble, and confident using any machine we encounter.
The assignments require posting things on the Internet. We build our own sites from scratch, we participate in each others' sites, we participate in public sites. This is an Art class; the Internet is our medium. Sometimes this will be difficult. We will be Open Source. We will help each other out.
There is a calendar.
No textbook is required, though the one we've used in the past is very good.
